2011 Spring Track

Boys Results

Season Highlights:  The team was coached by Jim Schlentz (distances) and assisted by Joe Lykes (jumps, hurdles), Kevin Hein (sprints), Dennis Bruck (throws) and Frank Harrison (jumps).  They  finished with a dual meet record of 3 wins and 3 losses.  Season highlights: The frosh team finished 5th and the sophomore team was 6th in the Monmouth County Frosh/Soph Champs.  Individual highlights: Mike O'Dowd won the Monmouth County Champs 3200 and the Central Jersey Group III Champs in the 1600.  Riley Leder was 6th in the 1600 at the Central Jersey Group III Champs.

Post-Season Highlights:  Mike O'Dowd was named 2nd team All-State Group III in the 1600 by the Star Ledger.  He was named 1st team All-Shore by the Asbury Park Press in the 3200 meter run and 1st team All- Monmouth County in the 3200 meter run.  He was also named 1st team All-Freehold District (3200) and Riley Leder (1600) was named honorable mention by the News Transcript.

Boys

It is a world of the individual against himself, it is his aspirations challenging the capacity of his body.  There is no enemy but the straining of every muscle.  It is not a sport, it is a life of work and precision and sometimes it is rewarded by a cheer or a press clipping.  But when the press clipping turns yellow, there will still be the memory of that time, perhaps only a moment, when the crowd faded to nothing and the only sound was breathing and the only feeling was the ache of endurance and pushing, pushing until the body soared with the mind, and no one else knew what it was to strive.

A storm came in as the race was about to start.  It dropped from mid 90s to mid 80s with light rain.  A small amount of lightning started on the first lap with thunder sounding in the distance.  When the lightning started getting worse, they stopped the race with 450 meters to go.  Here are Mike's splits.
