2002 Cross Country 

Girls Results

Season Highlights:  The team was coached by Bryan Parks and assisted by Jim Schlentz.  The team finished with a dual meet record of 5 wins and 0 loss in the A Central division of the Shore Conference and 7 wins and 1 loss overall..  Team highlights included winning the A Central Division championship, our 2nd in the last three years, and finishing 3rd in the State Group II championship to qualify for the Meet of Champions for only the 2nd time in school history.  (top 3 in each group qualify)  Individual highlights included Danielle Plenzo's 3rd, Melanie Mahoney's 6th and Lianne Price's 7th place finishes at the Freehold Regional District Championships.  This year we had our best team average ever at Holmdel Park as well as 10 girls under 23:00 at Holmdel Park (our previous best was 5).  That included 8 who will be back next year which makes the future look very bright.

Post-Season Highlights:  Danielle Plenzo was named 2nd team All-Monmouth County and Melanie Mahoney 3rd team All-Monmouth County by the Star Ledger.  Danielle Plenzo, Melanie Mahoney and Lianne Price were named to the All-Freehold District 1st team.  Kim Lang and Amy Lewis were named honorable mention All-Freehold District.

Group II State Championships

@ Holmdel Park  11/16/02

The Cougar girls take 3rd (5 pts ahead of Kittattiny and 8 ahead of Haddonfield) and advance to the Meet of Champions despite Danielle Plenzo being disqualified (wearing earrings).  The numbers would have still been 3rd place but with 150 pts and the team average would have been 21:52.65.  The course was total mud for the start and finish parts and very slow.  What an outstanding performance for the Lady Cougars!!
