2008 Cross Country
Boys Results
Season Highlights: The
team was coached by Jim Schlentz and assisted by Joe Lykes. The team
finished with a dual meet record of 5 wins and 2 losses in the A North division of the Shore Conference, which they
finished 3rd to CBA and Manalapan. Team highlights included
finishing 13th in the Group IV State Champs, 5th in the Central Jersey Group IV Championship,
and 8th in the
Shore Conference Champs. Individual highlights included Mark
Leininger and Mike O'Dowd finishing 18th and 29th in the Meet of
Champions, 2nd and 8th in the Group IV State Champs, 2nd and 6th in the Central
Jersey Group IV Champs Champs, 2nd and 9th in the Shore Conference Champs.
Post-Season Highlights: Mark
Leininger was named 2nd team All-State All-Groups Group IV by the Star Ledger
and New Jersey Track magazine and 1st team All-State Group IV with Mike
O'Dowd on the 2nd team by the Star Ledger. Mark was
named 1st team All-State Senior team and Mike was named 1st team All-State
Sophomore team
by New Jersey Track magazine. Mark was
also named 1st team
All-Shore Conference by the Asbury Park Press with Mike 2nd team and both were
named 1st team All-Monmouth County
by the Star Ledger. Mark and Mike were
named 1st team All-Freehold District by the News Transcript.

Boys
|
|
| It is a world of the individual against
himself, it is his aspirations challenging the capacity of his
body. There is no enemy but the straining of every
muscle. It is not a sport, it is a life of work and
precision and sometimes it is rewarded by a cheer or a press
clipping. But when the press clipping turns yellow,
there will still be the memory of that time, perhaps only a
moment, when the crowd faded to nothing and the only sound was
breathing and the only feeling was the ache of endurance and
pushing, pushing until the body soared with the mind, and no

average was only 11 secs slower than when they ran 16:14.8 to finish 2nd
in 2006 but faster than the 2004 team that finished 3rd.. Mark
Leininger ran the 6th fastest time ever on the course and Mike O'Dowd
moved into the top 30.

Boys finish 5th to move on to the Group IV State Champs.
The top 5 teams move on. Mark Leininger was 2nd as a tight pack of 4
came into the last 500 meters together. Mike O'Dowd was 6th after
running most of the race by himself.

hi 40s, very windy, especially against runners after the
bowl
Boys finish 13th. Mark Leininger made a huge move
right after 2 miles from a pack of 6 to open up a 40 meter lead with 800
to go. Robbie Andrews finally caught him with 150 meters to go to
win the race. Mark was 2nd in a PB 16:13. Mike O'Dowd also
moved on to the Meet of Champions next week with his 8th place finish in
16:40.
