2009-10 Winter Track

Boys Results

Season Highlights:  The team was coached by Jim Schlentz  (distance) and assisted by Joe Lykes (jumps/hurdles), Dennis Bruck (throws) and Kevin Hein (sprinters). Highlights of the season included Mike O'Dowd finishing 6th in the 5000 meter run to make All-American.  Team highlights: The Cougars were 10th in the Central Jersey Group IV Champs and 7th in the Monmouth County Individual champs.  Individual highlights: Mike O'Dowd ran the 12th fastest 3200 meter time in the nation and was 8th in the Meet of Champions, he also was 3rd in the State Group III Champs and 2nd in the Central Jersey Group III and Monmouth County Champs, Rafael Campos was 4th in the Central Jersey Group III high jump and Mike Fernandez was 5th in the shot put, the 4 x 1 mile relay team finished 10th at the Nationals, Vytautas Ulke won the Shore Conference A North 400 meter title.  

Post-Season Highlights:  Mike O'Dowd was named All-American by the NSIC in the 5000m.  Mike was named 3rd team All-State Group III in the 3200 by the Star Ledger; Mike was named 1st team All-Monmouth County by the Star Ledger. Mike was named 1st team  All-Freehold District by the News Transcript.  Named to honorable mention All-Freehold District were Vytautas Ulke (400) and Rafael Campos (high jump).

Boys 

It is a world of the individual against himself, it is his aspirations challenging the capacity of his body.  There is no enemy but the straining of every muscle.  It is not a sport, it is a life of work and precision and sometimes it is rewarded by a cheer or a press clipping.  But when the press clipping turns yellow, there will still be the memory of that time, perhaps only a moment, when the crowd faded to nothing and the only sound was breathing and the only feeling was the ache of endurance and pushing, pushing until the body soared with the mind, and no one else knew what it was to strive.
