Current NJ ranking (all groups) is done by Jim Lambert (boys) and Rich Benevese (girls) of the Star Ledger Rankings as of 9/24.
This meet will feature a background sound of kids screaming as they fly up and then down the Kinda Ka ride, located just across the parking lot from the starting line. The meet debut boasts schools from NJ, NY, PA, DE and VA.
The individuals will be fighting for a race division championship and a spot on the coveted All-Six Flags team. The All-Six Flags team, made up of the top 7 fastest boys and girls individuals of the day and the fastest boys and girls team (cumulative time of top 5 finishers) will all be honored at a special ceremony in the park at 3:00 pm. After the ceremony they will be brought to the fastest ride, move to the front of the line, be seated in the front, have some quick pictures taken and then blasted off. After all, the fastest runners belong on the fastest ride! But they can beg off if they choose.
The girls individual field is loaded with talent. The fastest seven girls will probably come from this group: The fastest girl could be soph Megan Young (Nanuet, NY) who won the NY Class B Champs in 17:56 (XC finish noted is 2010 season for all girls) and ran 9:54 for 3000 (approx 10:34 3200). She won the Suffern Inv "B" in 18:30 on 9/11/10; followed by Julie Macedo (Charter School of Wilmington, DE) who won the DE Large School XC State Champs and ran 10:55 3200/4:59 1600, she won the Lake Forest Inv in 18:14 on 9/11; Ursula Svoboda (Suffern, NY) 21st Class AA in XC, she won the Suffern Inv "A" race in 18:45 on 9/11; Molly McNamara (RBC) Holmdel PB: 18:43, 2nd Non-Public State Champs, 4:51 1600; Jen Molke (Holy Angels) Holmdel PB: 19:07: 6th Non-Public "A" State Champs, who won the 1st Bergen County Season opener "A" 9/18 or teammate Emily Dunne who was 4th Non-Public "A" State Champs and was 2nd at Bergen County Season opener "A" 9/18, Kristen Traub (Eastern Christian) Holmdel PB: 19:10, Non-Public "B" State Champ, 11:05 3200 who won the Bergen County Season opener "C" 18:37 9/18; Natalia Ocasio (Lenape) Holmdel PB: 19:17, 9th Group IV State Champs, 11:10 3200/5:01 1600; Dana Giordano (Bernards) Holmdel PB: 19:28, 5th Group II State XC Champs, improved to 10:55 3200 in track and had fastest time of day at Bernie Magee Class Meet 9/18; Brianna Feerst (Pt Pleasant Beach), winner of the Thompson Park Class Meet "Sr" 9/18
The fastest seven boys will probably come from this group: The top boy may be senior Mike O'Dowd (Colts Neck) Holmdel Park PB: 16:00, 2nd in the Group IV XC State meet, (XC finish noted is 2010 season for all boys) 9:12 indoor 3200m, he won the Lake Forest Inv, DE 9/11/10; followed by Kyle Davis (North Brunswick) Holmdel Park PB: 16:06, 6th in Group IV XC State Champs, 4:19 1600, 3rd Thompson Park Class Meet "Sr" 9/18; Tom Harrington (St. Mark's, DE) 4th in DE Large School XC Champs, 4:241600 who was 2nd at the Lake Forest Inv on 9/11; XC specialists Eric Dragonetti (Southern) who was 3rd in the Cherokee Inv Senior race on 9/11; Jaymin Modi (Charter School of Wilmington, DE) who was 3rd at the Lake Forest Inv; Nick Ward (Indian Hills) who won the Bergen County Season opener "A" 15:49 9/18 and Robert Rawls (Triton) who was 3rd in the Cherokee Inv Senior race 9/11; Anthony Dentino (Washington) 9:27 3200 and was 5th at the Cherokee Inv Senior race; and a group that is better known for their track times, Khari Bowen (Monroe) 9:25 3200, Sherif Ali (Cliffside Park) 9:29 3200, Andrew Valenski (Massapequa, NY) 9:30 3200; Cullen Davis (North Brunswick) 4:16 1600, winner of the Thompson Park Class Meet "Sr" 9/18; Kevin Byrne (RBC) 4:17 1600, 1:52 800.
The fastest girls team will come from a group that includes Red Bank Catholic, ranked #22 in the US by the Harrier magazine and #1 in NJ; Academy of Holy Angels, the #5 team in NJ; Pearl River,NY ranked #2 in Class B in NY; Charter School of Wilmington, DE, the #2 ranked team in DE; Voorhees, the #6 in NJ, who scored just 18 pts in winning the "B" division of the Randolph Inv; and Nanuet,NY the #3 ranked team in Class B, NY. RBC, Pearl River and Voorhees will all be in the Varsity C race.
The fastest boys team will come from a small group that includes St Mark's (DE) which lost in the tiebreaker with Oakton, VA in the Lake Forest Inv 9/11; Southern Reg, currently ranked #11 in all of NJ; Red Bank Catholic, ranked #13 in NJ; and Charter School of Wilmington, DE, the #3 ranked team in DE.
