Colts Neck Cross Country 2020
"The will to win means
nothing without the will to prepare."
Team Goal: (Boys and Girls) Win Monmouth
County, Shore Conference, Central Jersey and Group Championships.
Tips for the summer:
Make sure you stay hydrated.
Drink plenty of water and/or Gatorade during the day and the evening.
If you run in the morning it’s real important you hydrate at night.
If you run in the evening, hydrate during the day.
Make sure you hydrate after the runs as well.
Plan your daily schedule ahead of time so you know when you
are going to run. Make it part of
your day’s schedule so it isn’t missed.
Run in the morning before 9 am or the evening after 5:30 to
avoid the hottest parts of the day.
Try to run at the same time, eat at the same time and go to
bed at the same time so your body gets used to the daily routine.
If you are used to going to sleep at 10 pm during school do not start
sleeping from 2 am to 10 am. It
will just throw you way off when you restart school.
Do not put your body through extremes.
If you go on vacation and you will be active for most of
the day, get up early to run. Do
not put it off until you are too exhausted to get it done.
Call teammates to train with.
It is tough running by yourself all the time.
Get people to run with.
We will start optional team practices on Monday, July 6th.
Freshmen do not have to be at practice until August 17th but
coming to some of the summer workouts will allow you to meet the team and get an
early start. Mondays will be at
Holmdel Park and Thursdays will be at Lake Topanemus (Freehold Pond –
Robertsville Rd entrance).
Practices will start at 6 pm. It is
in your best interest to make as many practices as you can if you want to
improve. The full summer schedule
will be on www.coltsnecktrack.com.
Check the website periodically for updates, announcements, and new
information. Look at the fall race
schedule and plan college visits around it.
On August 17th we start official practices and
you are expected to be there each day.
Let your summer jobs know that you will need to stop working if it
conflicts with practice. You cannot
miss these three weeks and expect to be on the team.
It’s important that you meet with Coach Schlentz and sit
down with him to plan your summer workout schedule.
He needs your input. It is
useless for him to just send a workout schedule that you may or may not do.
Take the time to contact him.
Once
school starts practice is every day after school from 3:20 pm to 5:00 pm and
Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:00 am unless we have a meet.
The after school bus leaves at 5:00 pm and we will make sure you can make
it if you need to get on it. You
should have the proper clothing ready to do the workout outside.
If you are not prepared it’s the same as not being at practice.
You can miss one practice a week for school help, doctors/dentists, clubs
or whatever else. More than one
missed day and you miss the next meet you are eligible for.
Being sick from school is not included in this.
It is
your responsibility to let the coaches know if you are not going to be at
practice. All members of the team
should tell Coach Schlentz. Failure
to let him know will keep you from competing in meets and if it
continues, will cost you your spot on the team.
You have two choices, tell Coach Schlentz on GroupMe or email him.
If you can’t be at practice you are expected to get the workout and do it
on your own unless you are sick.
Telling the coach you are sick and showing up a week later is not the proper
routine. Tell the coach every day
you are missing practice unless you are not in school.
The email address is at the bottom of the team website.
You are
student-athletes and you represent the Cross Country team, failure to act
properly in class will get you kicked off the team.
After three detentions, please do not come to practice any more.
Finally,
if you are at a meet and want to leave the meet early, you must have filled out
a
Parental Transportation Request form, have it signed by the coach and have
brought it to the athletic director at least 24 hours before the meet.
You need to fill it out only once for
the season as long as you write “For the 2020 Cross Country Season” across the
top of the page. The forms can be found on our website by clicking forms.
There will be no exceptions.
We have
high expectations so do not come out for the team unless you want to be the best
you can be. We are
not a club to hang out with. We
expect people to train hard and strive to be the best they can be.
You can’t do that if you are not at practice.
There are no shortcuts to being good!
Please
train before practice starts or you will just get hurt.
At that point you are not helping the team or yourself.
Be ready on August 17th to train.
This is your team.
Every day you move forward as an athlete is a day the team moves forward.
Remember you represent them and yourself.
Every single day you have a chance to make yourself a better runner.
Do not throw that opportunity away.
You only get that day once.
It’s a day you can’t get back. Use
every day to get closer to your dream race/time.
Keep the CN tradition of success!
