Mission

Club East was started in the fall of 1996 (as Asics Club East) to give elite post-collegiate athletes a chance to continue to race and train at a high level.  It's best feature was the chance for these athletes to train together and then to compete as a team.  During the fall of 1996, the team entered it's first national championship (USATF) in  cross country at Stanford University and finished 7th among association teams.  The following year in Portland the team was 3rd.  Since then they have won numerous Eastern and NJ State Championships as a team as well as individually.  They've had one runner (Madelyn Noe-Schlentz) qualify for the 2004 Olympic Trials in the marathon, another (Julie Bowers) qualified for the 2000 Olympic Trials in the marathon while several others have missed by small margins.  And in the winter of 2001, we had our first American Record, a masters indoor record by Madelyn Noe in the 1 mile.  She followed that with American Records for the indoor 3000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters.  The team was started by and has been directed and coached by Jim Schlentz from the beginning.
